DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The trend of late week sales continued again last week
with the bulk of business delayed until Friday afternoon. Southern live deals
were done at mostly $248, $4 higher than the prior week's weighted average, a
handful of cattle in Kansas moved at $249. Northern dressed trade had a range
of $376 to $382, mostly $382, $4 higher than the previous week's weighed
average. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated
Purchase Summary reports the weekly accumulated weighted averages were
recorded as: KS $No Test($243.52); NE $No Test($378.00); TX $No
Test($244.00); IA $No Test($378.00); CO was not available due to
confidentiality. (the prior week's weighted averages are listed in
parentheses). Due to the late week trade these averages were not available,
so it will be interesting to see just where they land when the summaries are
released a little later this morning.
The Friday afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 263; NE 6,897; TX 72; IA 2,419; and CO not
available due to confidentiality. These totals will be much higher when
summaries are released later this morning as the bulk of business was
reported well after the Mandatory cutoff. According to the Daily Livestock
and Poultry Slaughter Report, Friday's slaughter totaled 86,000 head, 1,000
more than the prior week, but 16,000 lower than a year ago. Saturday's kill
was estimated at 1,000 head bringing the weekly total to 541,000 head, 5,000
greater than the previous week, but 21,000 less than 2025. The weekly average
for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $366.11(-2.60), select
$363.43(-0.37), with an average choice/select spread of $2.66(-2.21), and a
total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 441(-11), (Changes
from the prior week are listed in parentheses).
For the week ending February 07, 2026, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the
U.S. totaled 58,091, 115.80% of the previous week and 100.65% of the 4-week
average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It will likely be a rather quiet Monday, due to the
Presidents Day Holiday. Both packers and producers will be busy taking
inventory and preparing for the week ahead. Bids and asking prices have yet
to be established, and if the trend of the last couple of weeks continues,
significant trade volume will be delayed until much later in the week. Beef
cutouts are expected to be mixed with light box movement.
